Just to prove a little bit what tama is saying isn't just opinion or backed by a hidden agenda...
A few facts i found in 5 minutes
The 1st seat belt in japan was made by takata..
The company make alot of safety fabric's such as the material if life boats, space suits, jump suits, diving suits, helmets, boots.
they make steering wheels along with the airbag, they also make curtain, passenger and side impact airbag's
They also make the inflators for airbags along with the electrical components in the airbag safety systems. along with the seatbelt pretensioner system.
they make alot of the impact system sensor's which let the airbag off. and are now making lane change sensor's for new car's with lane change alarms on them.
They make interior trim's, seats's, arm rest's, sun visors..
Most of these are for big commercial business's
OH and they also make harness's . but last year they're sales were NO where near as many seatbelts as they sold airbags..
they're main clients for their seat belts are Honda, however, this is closely followed by Toyota, FORD and GM !!!!!!! then closely followed by Daimler..
I see a few mentioning Schroth, takata are buying out schroth.
takata is also in talks with BAE about buying the safety side of the company from BAE systems.. which we all know is an aerospace company who hold alot of the contracts with the R.A.F
What i have learnt is that yes they are expensive and yes people brand them as JDM points and whatever, but it seems they are one of the biggest safety companies in the world.
Personally i think you are buying Piece of mind when it comes to companies like takata .... Just the same as buying suspension parts from KONI....
Great info there!
