Hey guys,

A couple of my friends have just finished their rx7 projects. One in particular which was recently mapped and is now sapposedly pushing close to 500bhp and 400lbs of torque:wow: Still waiting for a ride out in it:)).

Anyway after having a chat with them, it got me thinking...is it time for a change i.e. sell my 9 and get something rwd/4wd turbo? Funilly enough they both used to own hondas and havent looked back since.

The only car I would consider selling my 9 for is a evo. However, insurance on them for me is still quite shocking, and running costs scare the hell out of me.

Having said that, I can insure an 200sx for a reasonable sum. From what Ive read they're pretty tuneable and reliable?.

I just wanted to get some input from you guys on here. Has anyone ever sold their honda for a bigger cc turbo beast and had any regrets?
Also how easy would it be to adapt to the handling characteristics of a rwd car after owning a fwd car like an ek9?

Thanks:nice:

I've always been very tempted by an S15 (for looks and tuneabilty) but the B18 has put that temptation on hold (well for now anyways ;))

The sr20's are pretty reliable in those 200sx once serviced regularly and with some basic bolt on's i.e turbo back exhaust+FMI and a custom tune for your setup you can get close to 300bhp, bigger turbo and you can go more than that but people don't tend to push the stock block past 350bhp.

s15s do luck sexy as hell man. I'm hoping that stroking my 9 ease the temptation too lol.
But after seeing these turbo beasts the other day, it seriously got me thinking:confused:

350bhp sounds interesting. Having never owned a rwd car in the past, Ive always been slightly hesitant of them.
I love the handling characteristics of the ek9, but I can imagine the 200sx is totally different i.e. drift machine lol

b18 the 9 then track it is the only way to properly enjoy the car!! hopefully will push aside your thoughts of the darkside ;)

Nothing wrong with trying other brands mate.

I had a lovely black s14a a few years back, but running costs killed me on it! ( i was doing 400 miles per week).

The nissian are a great car, very relaible but there getting harder to find a good honnest one that hasn't had the crap drove out of it!

I got an s15 now. Handling is quite good doesn't always go sideways. Running cost is ok 300 miles out of a tank of mixed driving. Servicing cost is not far of the ek9.
It's a totally different car, not as raw but alot more torque

Fingers crossed man:). Its either high comp stroked build and sellup and get a bigger cc turbo

Hey Derek,

would you have kept the s14a if you did less miles per week?.

What mods did you have done to it?

How did you find the handling compared to your Teg?

Personally I would only get rid of my ek9 for a Evo like you say. Only when i can insure it without needing a money tree.

Dale.

Put a K20 in your EK9 and then have another race with a 250-300bhp 200SX :D Think you won't be far off but you will have the raw-ness of an EK9. But then again, ain't much wrong with trying other brands. Just remember that power isn't everything. Experience is. And which cars gives the experience you're looking for depends on your taste.

Hi D'janiero,

I was in the same position as you with my previous EK9, as you know had a EK9, wanted more power and wanted to go RWD and rotary, so brought a 356 HP RX7 FD, was an immense ownership (something of this planet)....but seriously all that power wasnt enough for me mentally. I missed my EK9 so so so much, just the whole aspect of EK9. Sold it and am a proud owner of a EK9, isnt the fastest car out there but puts a smile on my face every time i wake up and see it in the morning and when i jump into it after work :)

Its all down to you mate, just my 2 cents ;)

I probably wouldn't have keep it long mate, it just wasn't my thing.

the car had a apexi avfc (something like that) and a hks silent power car back, runung at 0.9 bar of boost probal around 200bhp.

it handled like the liverpool ferry compared to the teg, stock suspension isn't that good on them, not really meant for high speed driving/cornering more a cruise motor way car

lol @ money tree. It seems you need one to run one of those things man. But like I said, an evo has always been my first choice after an ek9

I'd love to go k20, but for the hassle involved I would rather turbo my ek9 if anything. But like you said its all down to personal tastes:)

yO Kaks,

Forgot you had the rex. Thats the thing I read about alot.People moving onto bigger more powerful cars but always coming back to hondas. What was the handling, running costs etc like on your rex compared to the ek9?

Thanks again for the input Derek.
I reccon I may just stick to the original plan and stroke my 9:nice:

As said power aint everything even staying with honda. Had my dc5 for not even 2 months and craved another 9 the driving experience is hard to match. No harm in trying out something else after all you dont know untill you try but if you do the 9 bug will come calling again haha. My mate (jordan101) has just purchased an evo 9 putting out 380bhp and loves it but again running costs and that are a big dent in the old wallet, he still has his jordan and probably drives that more often than the evo so thats saying something :D lol

I think Ivse seen pics of your mates evo on here man....and it looks seriously nice.

lol...yeah ek9s seem to be very addictive cars. For me it ticks all the boxes, but I just needs to be that lil bit quicker.
Hopefully I should be happy once I stroke it. Last thing I wonna do is sell it asap for something turbo and rwd only to regret it a week later.

How did you find the dc5 gav?

I dont think i can ever sell my 9.
I probably keep it for another 20odd years, give it to my son once i decide to have a kid :p have it dry stored locked up and just look at it :):):)

I've had a few turbo cars now, a Nissan pulsar 4wd same engine as the SX200. There good solid engines I had mine tuned to 280bhp using stock turbo/engine. Then I had a Subaru WRX STI V3 that was modified before it was imported I just had it retuned and set up. Don't know full spec but it was run 362bhp 310lb. Both cars were nice to drive powerfull but not as half fun to drive as the 9. They were to fast for our roads, I kept seeing 100mph far to offen. As for that power though the rear wheels not for me it's bad enough though the 4wd systems.

Running the risk of going offtopic here but I think it would be more work to turbo your 9 AND get it as reliable as a K20 N/A. And these days no cutting in your chassis is required anymore for a K20 swap :)
